Jake Simon – Had enough

“Had Enough” is like a friends’ chat. Jake Simon’s vocal lines rationalize the feelings. While the guitar manifests them with musical abstraction. They sound like two sensibilities observing the same human phenomenon.

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF

I’m Jake Simon, a songwriter and producer from New Haven, CT. I’ve always been extremely curious about how my favorite songs get their “sound”. I grew up trying to mimic my favorite artists, first on guitar with vocals and then eventually picking up piano, drums, and music production when I got more into Hip Hop in high school. I hate to use the word “vibe”, but it’s always been about the vibe for me, trying to dissect how the individual parts come together to create a whole feeling that drives deeper. As a result, I’ve learned how to write, record, and mix my own music over the years to get to where I am today. I’m currently a medical student in New York, but in my free time I’m always putting new sounds together whether that is techno, hip hop, Rock, or this Alternative R&B project that you’re currently checking out 😊

DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN 3 WORDS

Chill, smooth, textured.

MAJOR MUSIC INFLUENCES?

I feel like this question changes drastically week to week, but some notable ones for this project have been Tom Misch, Tame Impala, Still Woozy, Mac Miller, Daniel Caesar, Frank Ocean, Joji and more recently on this track DLG.

HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN YOU LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC?

Even though the tracks are pretty laid back and subdued, I feel like they have an underlying energy that is invigorating and emotional.

WHAT IS THIS SONG ABOUT?

This song is an exploration of what can happen when emotions get bottled up in a relationship and people are left in the dark. I personally feel like I have more of a tendency to hold things back, so I wanted to explore the concept from the other perspective.
