ART Director : VFX

We are accepting applications for the position of VFX Art Director to join our in-house team on location in Wellington, New Zealand.

Skills and Requirements:

The VFX Art Director is a creative who is responsible for shaping and maintaining the look and feel of a film or episodic VFX project within the studio. They must be able to deliver best-in-class concept designs and will need an outstanding concept art portfolio. The VFX Art Director is responsible for interpreting and clearly communicating the direction provided by our clients to artists and supervisors.

• Experience as an art director in a VFX or production art department.
• More than 5 years of experience as a senior concept artist.
• Capable of creating a wide range of characters, creatures, environments and moods in a range of styles from drawing and painting to highly detailed live imagery.
• Ability to clearly interpret and communicate visual direction from clients and key creatives to artists and internal supervisors.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to participate in client assessments and other related meetings.
• Have passion and enthusiasm for creating original and imaginative works of art.
• Must be highly skilled in Photoshop and/or other design software. 3D modeling skills and experience creating well-lit renders, using Maya, Z-Brush, Keyshot or Mudbox would also be ideal.
• Provide mentorship, guidance and feedback to a team of concept artists and assistants to deliver world-class concept designs.
• A solid understanding of the anatomy and movement of organic and mechanical forms.
• Have a solid understanding of film composition and lighting.
• Must have a solid knowledge and understanding of current VFX design techniques, workflows and processes.
• Must be self-motivated, have a good work ethic and be a collaborative team player in a fast-paced production environment.
• Able to take direction, give direction and clearly communicate ideas and concerns to supervisors and other co-workers.
• Will collaborate with VFX Supervisors, Producers, Asset Department Managers and Artists to ensure consistency across multiple assets and environments.
• Collaborate with production on RFPs, assess team coverage and ensure timely delivery and transmission of visual requirements.

Nice to Have:

• Advanced degree in illustration, graphic design or fine arts.
• Basic knowledge in art theory, history and architecture.
