Job Details
Gearbox needs a Technical Leader to join our high caliber publishing team. In this position, you will help several external teams present their vision to audiences around the world. The ideal candidate has experience working in the development trenches in direct or indirect leadership roles and is familiar with all aspects of game development and publishing responsibilities. You will need to contact different roles and teams with a high degree of emotional intelligence. The right candidate will deliver world-class entertainment experiences by working with the publishing and gaming teams to help find effective solutions to difficult problems.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively support the project team on a day-to-day basis, helping to identify technical risks/issues and guiding them through the development process
- Oversaw the building of a diverse portfolio of games, assisting various development, publishing and production teams
- Help define and review external milestone deliverables
- Work with production staff and other managers to establish engineering goals and subsequent schedule requirements across multiple programming and technology disciplines to meet project deadlines and budgets
- Provide feedback for titles at all stages of development, from inception to release
- Identify process/tool improvement opportunities and directly implement these initiatives with the goal of improving the quality of play, team effectiveness and fostering a positive work atmosphere
- Maintain communications with all team members, team leaders and senior management
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of leadership experience as a lead programmer, lead engineer, or associate technical director in a video game studio or publisher
- 3+ years of software development experience
- Shipped at least two AAA titles (console, PC, or mobile)
- Experience in identifying and supporting external teams
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages and operating system environments
Expert knowledge in one or more major functional areas of game development and publishing:
- Audio
- Chart
- Gameplay
- Engine systems
- Tools and pipeline
- Release Engineering
- Back-end and cloud services
- Online game / multiplayer
- Understanding of risk management principles and demonstrated ability to put them into practice
- Customer service oriented, doing what it takes to help partners succeed while establishing clear lines of accountability
Bonus points for:
- Unity Engine or Unreal Engine 4 experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an applicable field or equivalent experience
