Production Manager

Job Details

Wētā FX is finding for a Head of Department to join our production team. This role will participate setting up processes and setting up best practices. We want to address applicants with production experience who are used to managing large teams working on complex projects.

As the head of the production department, you will be responsible for overseeing the forecasting and crew composition of the entire production team based on the show. The role is primarily planning and resource based, working with show management to meet the changing needs of our various projects. The majority of teamwork lives with a team of team leaders who support the individual production team and its development. The department head will need to consult meaningfully with the team leaders about the casting.

Responsibilities:

• Manage resource requirements, working with VFX Producers, Production Managers and Central Production
• Ensure Show Production is consulted on resource plans and send regular and timely confirmation of team composition and changes to meet Show profiles
• Have a comprehensive understanding of incoming emissions requirements and shared challenges across the department
• Effectively identify and triage the show’s critical technical and/or creative challenges (risks and issues) and prioritize discussions and problem-solving initiatives to successfully resolve them
• Work with Realm management to proactively identify issues and risks, providing input into resolving these issues within the department
• Forecast resource requirements for the department – identify key shortfalls and anticipate excess crew scenarios
• Work with team leads and the production trainer to identify areas where developing team skills can benefit ongoing or future projects
• Support team leaders in recruitment as needed
• Approve production leaves and formulate coverage plans for any team absences to ensure project objectives are not compromised
• Provide sickness and leave coverage to the Senior Production Manager

Qualifications:

• Strong stewardship skills
• Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written
• At least five years of production management experience
• In-depth knowledge of film production
• A good working knowledge of Excel
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills
• Strong analytical and presentation skills
• A curious mind
