    The virtual art department is one of the few of its kind in the world. Our small and talented team of generalists provides real-time assets for Mocap, Previs and Animation using Weta’s unique proprietary pipeline and helps deliver shows successfully.     This role is for a Maya 3D generalist with strong modeling, texturing and layout skills who is also proficient in lighting concepts. You will provide high quality, efficient, accurate and flexible resources for timely real-time rendering.

    To thrive in this role, you will have excellent communication skills and interdisciplinary thinking and you will understand how to collaborate effectively with the team to achieve the best possible outcome.

    Your Responsibilities:

    • Conduct regular rounds, oversee and support your team’s VAD
    • Represent the VAD team at meetings such as trade show dailies, etc.
    • Adopt appropriate methodologies to deliver real-time assets
    • Motivate and provide effective guidance, experience and support to artists at different skill levels
    • Assist the supervision / management of the show and the department during the planning of the works
    • Communicate effectively with artists, supervisors and production on a daily basis to raise concerns and discuss potential solutions
    • Balance and maintain an overview across multiple shows while monitoring quality and productivity

    Attributes:

    • A coil demonstrating a wide range of organic and hard surface patterns with a clean and efficient topology (preferably with wired stills)
    • Fast and efficient UV and texture skills for texturing assets using Mari, Photoshop, Quixel, Substance Painter/Designer
    • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, take direction and handle written and verbal notes with quick turnarounds
    • Experience with game engines (Unreal or Unity)
    • Applicable work experience in the games, virtual reality, visual effects/business related industries (6+ years) of Maya 3d
    • Extensive research skills – you will be able to interpret architectural plans and digitize data, with a strong understanding of scale, so that what is built is true to the real world
    • Flexibility to perform in an ever-changing work environment, able to compromise and take criticism well
    • The ability to model within a team, provide constructive feedback, work to high standards, and check the quality of your work and that of others
    • The ability to take initiative and work effectively under own direction
