three9four – Shut Up and Dance

The deployment of textures that three9four makes for his new track “Shut up and dance” is an unappealable invitation to the dance floor. Both the percussive and melodic sections line up to immerse the brain in an environment designed to energize any dance floor.

PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF.

I am three9four, an experimental artist from the USA. Having lived in Asia and Europe as well as the USA, I have a deep appreciation for the cultural textures along the spectrum of musical genres. I like to celebrate that musical diversity in my tracks. I come from somewhat of a musical family on my mother’s side, with a mother who played piano and a grandmother who taught it. Blessed with a mother who was also an audiophile, I learned at an early age to appreciate many genres of music, and celebrate that in the artistic creation of my music.

DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND IN 3 WORDS.

Innovative, experimental, and emotional.

MAJOR MUSIC INFLUENCES?

An eclectic group. Definitely Prince was THE major influence due to his innovation and willingness to take chances and be multi-genre. David Guetta is definitely an influence, and Depeche Mode for dark alternative. Finally, I tend to like artists who find new musical pathways and explore unique sounds, such as Andreas Vollenweider and Hans Zimmer.

HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN YOU LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC?

All the music I create is about both self-expression and musical celebration. As I mentioned earlier, my mother is an audiophile and introduced me to a wide spectrum of music – jazz, classical, rnb, country, and new age. I then discovered my passion for other genres such as house, edm, rock, pop, and hip hop. My music crosses the arc of many of these genres. When I listen to my own music, I feel the fullness of the musical spectrum and appreciate the freedom we have as artists to explore its many facets. Music has no bounds. My one piece of advice is to pursue your passions and take chances with your music. Don’t let anyone categorize you; you make that decision yourself with the artistic expression of your music.

WHAT IS THIS SONG ABOUT?

Dancing is both an expression of self and a universal language. Anyone can dance and feel good about the gift of human bodily movement and the spiritual freedom associated with it, and even communicate that joy to others. Shut Up and Dance taps into both of these – self-expression and freedom conveyed through motion and deliberativeness. But…. sometimes we need a push to enjoy ourselves; and that’s why there is this guttural deep voiced command in the track to shut up and dance. That voice gives you the permission to turn off the digital devices, get away from your time bandits, grab some space, and just . . . dance!
