Audi and Zaha Hadid Architects bring ‘Origin’ installation to Milan Design Week 2026

Audi introduces 'Origin', a temporary architectural installation created with Zaha Hadid Architects. Located in the courtyard of the Portrait Hotel on Corso Venezia, it transforms the historic site into a spatial reflection on contemporary mobility and design culture. Developed for Milan Design Week 2026, the project positions Audi’s evolving design philosophy as an immersive environment, where clarity, technical precision, and emotional resonance are translated into built form.

Audi unveils ‘Origin’ installation by Zaha Hadid Architects as a spatial reflection on mobility

Audi introduces ‘Origin’, a temporary architectural installation created with Zaha Hadid Architects.

The Origin installation Milan Design Week 2026 operates as a sculptural structure defined by reduction. Its geometry removes excess, focusing on proportion, surface continuity, and controlled curvature. The matte metallic envelope, reminiscent of titanium, responds subtly to light conditions throughout the day. As shadows shift across the courtyard, the installation recalibrates its visual presence, creating a dynamic interaction between object and context. This temporal dimension turns the installation into a responsive architecture, where perception depends on movement and duration.

The external skin diffuses reflections instead of amplifying them, producing a softened visual field that contrasts with the ornate architectural language of the former Archiepiscopal Seminary. Internally, the structure frames a transitional space that encourages slower circulation. Visitors enter a calibrated environment where acoustics, light gradients, and spatial compression are orchestrated to reduce sensory intensity. In this sense, the installation functions as both public art and temporary architecture, addressing the conditions of overstimulation in urban environments.

The collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects extends beyond formal experimentation. It reflects a shared interest in how design can operate across disciplines, from product engineering to spatial experience. Origin translates technical intelligence and performance, into an architectural language that communicates without relying on explicit automotive references. The installation becomes a bridge between industrial design and cultural discourse, positioning mobility within a broader conversation about perception and environment.

Alongside the Origin installation Milan Design Week 2026, Audi presents key advancements in its mobility strategy. The new Audi RS 5 plug-in hybrid introduces electrified performance into the brand’s high-performance segment, while the Audi R26 Formula 1 prototype signals its entry into top-tier motorsport. These elements extend the installation’s narrative, linking spatial clarity with engineering precision and reinforcing Audi’s commitment to innovation across both road and track contexts.
