Alyssa Caroline: Hey Moon

Alyssa Caroline: Hey Moon

Alyssa Caroline’s “Hey Moon” takes the fantasy of romance apart from inside it. The song begins by asking for a fairytale, a happy ending, and wedding bells, then grows impatient with the promise that a perfect partner will simply appear. Bright synths and crisp percussion keep the track moving while the lyrics admit that love is “too dang hard,” leaving the moon with the job of finding someone real.

That conversation with the moon gives the song its clearest image. “I’m done wishing on the stars” replaces the distant wish with a direct request, while the speaker moves between wanting a prince to kneel and admitting she can get by on her own. The movie fantasy keeps returning, but so does the refusal to wait forever for “Mr Perfect” to arrive without making a move. The shimmering production gives those complaints somewhere to dance. “Hey Moon” can ask for the fairytale and reject its rules in the same song, keeping the desire for love intact without pretending that love comes easily.
