Lord Fascinator and Spiral Drive make “RAD” a song about cycling as a form of escape, with four repeated syllables, “Fahr, Fahr, Fahr, Far away,” doing most of the lyrical work. The track belongs to REISE, a five-part collaboration built around transportation, and this second chapter shifts from the car of “Auto” toward the bicycle. The destination matters less than the movement itself.
The bicycle gives the concept a different kind of propulsion. Here, the rider becomes the engine, while the landscape turns into part of the music, an idea reflected in the song’s minimal lyric and forward pull. Recorded in Mannheim, the project also places that movement in a city associated with both the car and bicycle, giving “RAD” a playful relationship with the machines that have shaped modern travel. Its synthpop and experimental electronic language keeps the journey moving without overloading the premise.
“Fahr” means drive, but the repeated word quickly becomes less about a destination than the distance opening ahead. One pedal follows another and the road keeps going.
