oktehya: complicated

oktehya: complicated

oktehya’s “complicated” makes desire a problem that survives precisely because nobody names it. She describes the song as attraction to someone she should not want, with an unspoken secret holding the two people in place, and that premise gives the song its shape before anything needs to be explained. The word “complicated” does not resolve the situation. It is the excuse people use when the simpler word might be harder to say.

The EP’s larger concern with relationships gives the song another layer, since oktehya describes connection, attraction, attachment, and the treatment of others as ways of understanding the self. Here, that understanding begins at an uncomfortable edge: wanting someone can reveal something before a person is ready to define it. The secrecy matters because it keeps desire suspended between impulse and consequence. Nothing has to happen for the relationship to change. Knowing is enough.

“complicated” therefore belongs to a project interested in what relationships expose about the people inside them. oktehya does not need to turn the attraction into a lesson or give the secret a clean ending. The song stays with the part where both people know, neither says it, and the word that remains is still complicated.
