Candy Box by Clara Bacou transforms Outernet London into an immersive digital environment
Digital artist Clara Bacou brings Candy Box to Outernet London as a large-scale immersive installation combining animated creatures, flowers and ornamental digital sculptures. Presented inside The Now Building in central London, the project expands Bacou’s intricate 3D practice across Outernet’s monumental wrap-around screens. The work runs from June 1 to September 6, 2026, transforming the venue into a continuously changing environment where individual digital objects operate at architectural scale.
Candy Box takes inspiration from the anticipation of opening a box of chocolates, where each compartment reveals a different form. Clara Bacou translates that sense of discovery into a dense visual world populated by fantastical figures, botanical elements and decorative structures. The compositions move between playful and highly detailed, with contrasting silhouettes and textures appearing across the screens as the sequence develops.
Each element began as an individual digital sculpture created in ZBrush. Clara Bacou modelled the forms separately before combining them into larger compositions, animating their movement and adapting their proportions to Outernet’s unusual display format. This process allowed small details to become highly visible once enlarged, while changes in scale give the work a different physical presence inside the venue.
Maxon supported the creation and production of Candy Box, with ZBrush forming a central part of Bacou’s workflow. The collaboration focused on the production of bespoke artwork for a screen environment that extends across multiple surfaces. The final installation therefore depends not only on the forms themselves, but also on how they are positioned, repeated and animated in relation to the dimensions of The Now Building.
As the animation travels through the space, Clara Bacou’s digital sculptures shift between walls and overhead surfaces, creating different views depending on where visitors stand. Some forms appear as isolated objects, while others accumulate into denser scenes. The immersive format encourages viewers to move through the installation and encounter the work from changing distances, where modelling details, decorative surfaces and exaggerated proportions become increasingly apparent.
Across its 98-day presentation, Candy Box reaches one of London’s busiest digital art venues. Outernet reports approximately 828,000 monthly visitors to The Now Building, giving the project a potential footfall of roughly 2.7 million visits during its run. By translating individually sculpted digital forms into a public installation of this scale, Bacou shifts Candy Box from a collection of virtual objects into a shared spatial experience.
