Drama Dolls: DANCING

Drama Dolls: DANCING

Drama Dolls’ “DANCING” takes the daily mess and answers it with a dance break. The song opens with a spacious drum beat before moving into a retro groove that recalls the breezy sway of Blondie’s “The Tide Is High” and the spacey pulse of “Atomic.” There is a playful side to the band here, with a singalong “ba-da-ba-da-bas” that makes the invitation hard to resist.

The idea is simple, but the band knows when to stop taking things seriously. Problems can wait, at least for the length of a song. The mix of punk, new wave, and pop gives “DANCING” a lighter touch than a straight protest anthem, without losing the attitude that runs through Drama Dolls’ music. The chorus brings everyone into the same moment, leaving room for a little silliness in the middle of everything going wrong. Nothing here promises that tomorrow will be any easier. The mess will still be there, but tonight there is music, movement, and a chance to forget about it for a while. “DANCING” makes that small escape sound like a perfectly good idea.
