GENER8ION presents GOD HATES SPACE at Art Basel Paris 2026
French creative duo GENER8ION, formed by music producer and composer Surkin and filmmaker Romain Gavras, presents GOD HATES SPACE, an immersive audiovisual installation at the Grand Palais in Paris for Art Basel Paris 2026. Developed in collaboration with Art Basel and Live Nation France, the project occupies the Rotonde d’Antin from October 22 to 25, bringing cinematic imagery, electronic music and large-scale spatial design into one of the French capital’s most prominent exhibition venues. The installation marks the first collaboration between Art Basel and Live Nation and introduces an audiovisual environment built around a monumental double-sided screen.
At the centre of GOD HATES SPACE stands a 12-metre screen that establishes the installation’s visual architecture. Positioned within the Rotonde d’Antin, the structure allows moving images to occupy the exhibition space on an architectural scale. The double-sided configuration creates a viewing experience that extends beyond a conventional cinematic presentation, connecting the installation to the surrounding building. Sound and image operate together, establishing an environment in which the scale of projection and the physical presence of the screen contribute to the work’s spatial dimension.
The installation forms part of the fictional universe developed by GENER8ION for its album LOVE & TEARS, released on June 12, 2026. The project extends the narrative introduced through the track God Hates Space, featuring American rapper and singer 070 Shake. Through music, film and visual storytelling, the duo constructs a speculative near-future setting that incorporates elements of political fiction, digital culture and imagined societies. At the Grand Palais, this narrative expands from recorded music and moving images into an installation experienced within a physical environment.

Surkin and Romain Gavras bring different creative backgrounds to the collaboration. Surkin emerged from the French electronic music scene, associated with the development of French Touch 2.0, while Gavras established his filmmaking practice through the Kourtrajmé collective and a series of music videos and films. Their collaborative work under the GENER8ION name connects these disciplines through projects in which the soundtrack and visual composition are developed as interdependent elements. GOD HATES SPACE continues this approach while introducing an architectural component to the presentation.
The Rotonde d’Antin enters the Art Basel Paris programme for the first time in 2026, providing a distinctive historical setting for the contemporary audiovisual work. The installation’s temporary presence establishes a dialogue between the Grand Palais architecture and GENER8ION’s digitally constructed world. Accessible free of charge through Entrance 4, the project extends the fair’s cultural programme beyond the traditional presentation of artworks and galleries.
