Montell2099

Montell2099 produces electronic, trap and club sounds. His releases for NIGHTMODE pair different approaches to rhythm and bass, and the double single PUSH DOMEZ BACK : LUV 2 PARTY puts that contrast front and centre. The two tracks share a concept, RE-WIRE : MONOCHROME, but take separate paths.

Push domez back

Montell2099 builds “PUSH DOMEZ BACK” around a vocal sample from Big L, using the rapper’s fast delivery as part of the beat. A deep 808 bass anchors the half-time rhythm, while metallic synth leads and pitch-bent sounds cut across the low end. The track has a heavy, restless pulse, with the vocal driving much of its movement.

Fast hi-hat rolls and stuttering patterns keep the beat on edge. The snare leaves space for the bass to hit, while the synths add sharp bursts above it. Montell has said he found the Big L vocal and started experimenting with a different bounce. That playful starting point makes sense in a track that treats the sample as raw material for the rhythm.

“PUSH DOMEZ BACK” carries the RE-WIRE tag in the pair’s shared concept. Its weight and aggressive percussion put it on the harder side of the release, away from the more fluid garage groove of “LUV 2 PARTY.” The Big L sample remains at the centre, cutting through each shift in the beat.

LUV 2 PARTY

“LUV 2 PARTY” finds Montell2099 working with UK garage rhythms and a more relaxed club groove. A shuffled two-step beat sets the pace, with syncopated hi-hats and a bouncy bassline filling out the rhythm. Compared with “PUSH DOMEZ BACK,” the track gives more room to swing and lets the groove carry the arrangement.

Warm, detuned chords sit behind the drums, while short synth stabs answer the percussion. The bass moves around the beat rather than weighing it down, and small textural details fill the gaps without taking attention away from the rhythm. Montell keeps the arrangement focused on these changes, letting the interplay between drums, bass and synths do the work.

Tagged MONOCHROME, “LUV 2 PARTY” takes the other side of the double single’s concept. It favors movement and space over the heavier attack of its companion, giving the two tracks distinct identities without making them sound unrelated. Together, they show Montell2099 approaching club music from two different angles.
