“Bonfire” by Steam Brief is an atmospheric Jazz deployment about the lingering presence of a memory, symbolized by the scent of a bonfire. The poetic lyrics and moody instrumentation mirror nostalgia and longing, as the narrator reflects on a past connection that continues to linger in mind. The imagery of fire, embers, and cold October air evokes a bittersweet mix of warmth and melancholy, and sensory details, from the smell of bonfire on clothes to the cold air and amber light of autumn transmit a desire to let go of the past while acknowledging the difficulty of doing so.
