Sometimes a song begins as nothing more than a fragment, a placeholder, a name on a file. For Rory Alcantar, that word was “Portugal”. Strummed into his phone in 2017 from a cramped room behind his grandmother’s garage in LA, the melody sat quietly, waiting for its moment. A year later, life caught up with the title.
