The House Flies´ “Sweet Foxhound” exemplifies the band’s signature style while showcasing the growth of their sound. Layered guitars, rhythmic bass, and hypnotic vocals create a cinematic, darkly alluring atmosphere, while the driving momentum ensures it never loses its energy. “Sweet Foxhound” is a haunting and compelling statement.
We asked them about the aesthetic concept, they were clear: “The idea came from wanting something off-kilter and memorable. The masks gave it a weird, dreamlike feel that matched the song’s tone without over-explaining anything”. The video has a cheerful storytelling, with an ironic home-sweet-home portrayal.
The House Flies are a Midwest-based gothic post-punk band whose music is defined by moody atmospheres, driving rhythms, and cinematic textures. Since their emergence, they’ve been fusing shadowy guitar lines with hypnotic vocals and pulsing bass. Their creative vision has continued to evolve, especially after their 2024 release, Mannequin Deposit. “Sweet Foxhound” was originally conceived during those sessions. The track was revisited and fully realised with the expanded lineup, adding depth and complexity to its arrangement.
For those who might not know you yet, how would you introduce yourself?
We’re The House Flies, a Midwest band making dark, atmospheric rock that blends post-punk, shoegaze, and goth influences.
If you had to bottle up your sound into just three words, which ones would you choose?
Melodic, shadowy, immersive.
Which artists (not only music-related) or moments have left the biggest mark on your music?
There’s a ton of influence from artists from all styles and sounds between our members. Hopefully, that shows in our songwriting. Outside of music, film and visual art—anything with strong mood and atmosphere—definitely plays a part.
When you hit play on your songs, what kind of feeling takes over?
It’s that mix of calm and weight. The songs pull you in slowly and sit with you for a while.
Can you walk us through the story or emotion behind this track?
I like to leave the meaning open. Everyone hears something different in it, and that’s what makes it interesting.
If you could team up with anyone in the world—no limits—who would be that dream collaborator?
Not something we’ve thought of. Tend to keep it local and work with people we know to help each other spread the word and grow our audience naturally.
Outside of music, what brings you joy or keeps you grounded?
I think we all have different ways to be distracted from music. Animals, family, reading, movies, video games, you name it, and probably one of us has it as a hobby.
Do you have a favourite quote or mantra that keeps you motivated on tough days?
This is a hard one. Not sure there’s a specific quote or saying that comes to any of our heads. Writing and playing our music is definitely a way we all can get out of our heads and create something new together.
