Nike Air Milano jacket advances responsive outerwear for winter athletes
Nike’s Therma-FIT Air Milano Jacket enters the winter stage as a precision-built expression of adaptive performance, shaped through years of athlete data and material innovation.
Its presence communicates a refined technical language, guided by Air technology that has transformed sport for nearly five decades.
Now, that same foundation forms the core of an outerwear system that responds instantly to the wearer, granting temperature control through an inflatable structure that shifts as conditions change.

Developed for Team USA athletes heading into Milan, the jacket applies A.I.R. (Adapt. Inflate. Regulate.) Technology to create a dynamic thermal environment.
Instead of relying on traditional fills or layered construction, its baffles adjust through airflow, offering warmth that ranges from a casual hoodie level to the output of a mid-weight insulator.
This approach allows athletes to maintain equilibrium during movement without resorting to wardrobe changes, establishing a fluid interaction between body and garment.

At the center of the design is a two-layer composite laminate engineered for durability and refined tactility.
The fabrication introduces a new sensory dimension to performance apparel, giving the jacket a sculpted quality shaped through computational tools and data-driven refinement.
Designers used extensive mapping from the Nike Sport Research Lab to form zones that respond intelligently to shifts in activity, crafting a piece that communicates a sense of measured precision.

The development process extends Nike’s long history with inflatable outerwear, from early ACG experiments to recent ISPA innovations.
Air Milano synthesizes that lineage into a garment that operates like an adjustable thermal instrument, capable of inflating or deflating within seconds.
It operates not as a static piece but as a responsive system aligned with the brand’s broader Functional Innovative Technologies, including Therma-FIT insulation, Aero-FIT cooling, Dri-FIT moisture management, and Storm-FIT weather protection.

Team USA’s edition carries sculpted aesthetic touches, a custom ACG pump, metallic twill accents, and an interior lining portraying Colorado Springs’ Garden of the Gods.
Accessibility details, such as thumb loops at the hem and a magnetic zipper, ensure use across a wide range of athletes.
Across more than 380 hours of testing in Colorado, participants pushed the jacket through running, hiking, biking, skiing, and snowboarding to verify its thermal consistency in unpredictable conditions.
