The project BLEND by Ward Wijnant is inspired by the thought that out of one and the same tree, the same wood, different kind of patterns, and structures can be gained.
BLEND is based on the idea to visualize the effect of different sawing techniques by emphasizing the woodgrains. By using a quarter sawìng technique, woodgrains appear as stripes. With a plain sawing technique wood rains appear as flames. The design of BLEND shows wood in an unusual way by using both quarter- and plain sawn timber. Also, by playing with the inlay work and grain directions, the roadshows a surprising new perspective.
This masterly manipulation of natural grain patterns and timber joinery finds contemporary synergy in seating design, as the ORUHA wooden chair by Yedit prepares for global debut and limited release, uniting Japanese craftsmanship with sculptural fluid profiles.
