Akhaldaba Private House a thoughtfully designed residence shaped by the natural landscape
Akhaldaba Private House, designed by MUA Architecture & Placemaking, is a residential retreat situated in the village of Akhaldaba near Tbilisi, Georgia. The two-story house, complete with a pool, is an architectural response to the site’s natural terrain, carefully integrating the client’s needs with the surrounding environment. A thorough analysis of the landscape guided the development of a design that seamlessly blends with the topography, ensuring a functional yet visually harmonious structure.
The house is organized into three distinct yet interconnected blocks, each strategically positioned to align with the site’s contours. The orientation of these blocks was determined by their functional relationships, as well as their connection to the landscape, resulting in semi-open spaces that foster a fluid interaction between the indoors and outdoors. Internal staircases link these segments, maintaining a cohesive spatial flow while respecting the natural terrain and minimizing disruption to the land’s natural curves.
The northwest-facing pedestrian entrance leads to the main entryway, which includes a greenhouse. This space transitions into the primary living areas, with bedrooms strategically placed across both levels to provide privacy and maximize views of the surrounding landscape, including the nearby road and ravine.
Akhaldaba Private House was designed for both relaxation and functionality, the communal rooftop area features a terrace and pool. These elements are accessible via an internal passage from the second floor of the bedroom block, as well as an external staircase from the yard, creating multiple ways to experience the outdoor environment.
The material palette reinforces the home’s strong connection to its surroundings. The rough-textured concrete façade serves as both a structural and aesthetic element, providing durability while maintaining a raw, organic appearance. Green aluminum frames accentuate the windows and doors, complementing the surrounding vegetation. Climbing plants on the exterior walls further soften the structure’s presence, making it an integral part of the landscape.
This residence reflects a contemporary architectural vision where thoughtful spatial organization, material selection, and sensitivity to nature create a home that is both functional and visually striking. Akhaldaba Private House stands as a testament to modern design that respects and enhances its environment.
