Altos House embraces natural surroundings through modern concrete architecture
Altos House, conceived by Brazilian architecture firm OSPA, is nestled within a nature-rich condominium in Canela, in the heart of the scenic Serra Gaúcha. Designed as a weekend haven for a family, the residence integrates harmoniously with its unique terrain, positioned at the highest point of the lot to ensure sweeping views of the landscape and a discreet separation from the adjacent road.
This strategic placement allows the home to remain both secluded and visually open, offering a refined sense of privacy and tranquility. The architectural layout is shaped by the land’s contours, aligning the structure along the southern boundary to form a generous leisure space that opens to the north. This outdoor area is shaded by native Araucaria trees, providing a serene setting for relaxation and family gatherings.
The Altos House’s design thoughtfully separates functions: the social spaces such as the living and dining areas face the front of the property, while the private quarters, including the bedrooms, are discreetly positioned at the rear, with direct access to a central courtyard that enhances the connection between indoor and outdoor environments.
A clean, linear staircase serves as a spatial transition between public and private zones, culminating in a rooftop terrace that functions as a viewing platform—perfect for taking in the lush surroundings. At the ground level, the entry includes not only covered parking but also a wine cellar, subtly underscoring the residence’s blend of luxury and practicality.
The material choices reflect a commitment to elemental elegance. Exposed concrete, large glass panels, warm wood accents, and natural stone floors create a palette that is both sophisticated and unpretentious.
