Bolda by Lambert & Fils & Kwangho Lee debuts at Milan Design Week 2025

Bolda Collection: A fusion of craftsmanship and enamel artistry

In a striking fusion of craftsmanship and creative exploration, Canadian lighting studio Lambert & Fils unveils Bolda, its latest collection in collaboration with renowned South Korean designer Kwangho Lee.

The collection is set to make its debut during Milan Design Week 2025 at the prestigious Salone del Mobile. This partnership celebrates the interplay between material, form, and cultural exchange, resulting in a lighting series that redefines sculptural design.

Drawing on the studio’s signature polished aluminum, the Bolda collection introduces a dramatic contrast with Kwangho Lee’s richly textured enameled copper. The combination gives rise to light fixtures that exude both raw energy and refined artistry.

The aluminum acts as a structural canvas, while the copper elements, glazed using a traditional Korean technique called chilbo, bring depth, color, and a painterly quality.

The luminous tube hidden beneath the enameled surface casts a gentle glow, tracing the lines and curves of each piece and emphasizing the bold perforations that punctuate the design.

Available as a suspension model and two wall sconces, Bolda comes in both a richly detailed and a minimalist variant. The streamlined version, composed exclusively of polished aluminum sheets, offers a purist interpretation while preserving the spatial dialogue and visual rhythm of the original concept.

Each design exists in a state of transformation, its form shifting in response to the viewer’s perspective and surrounding environment.

Kwangho Lee’s contribution to the project is rooted in his deep engagement with copper enameling, a practice he has expanded beyond its traditional decorative use to create large-scale, immersive works.

Inspired by Jeju Island’s tranquil landscape—waves, wind, and reflective light—Lee named the collection Bolda, a Korean word evoking a quiet yet powerful journey.

This metaphor of movement and discovery mirrors the collaborative process itself, which began with remote design development and culminated in a hands-on creative residency in Montreal. There, Lee and the Lambert & Fils team refined each element, blending precision with intuition, innovation with heritage.

The partnership was catalyzed by Pierre Laramée, a key figure in Montreal’s design community, who recognized the potential for synergy between Lee’s experimental techniques and Lambert & Fils’ dedication to materiality. The result is not only a product line but a story of artistic kinship—of mutual respect, curiosity, and shared vision.

Set against a scenography crafted by DWA Design Studio, and supported by architectural paint specialists Kolors, the unveiling of Bolda at Salone del Mobile marks Lambert & Fils’ return to the international spotlight.

Alongside Bolda, the full Ipoli series will also be on display, showcasing the studio’s ongoing exploration of functional elegance in lighting. As Milan Design Week begins, Bolda stands as a luminous embodiment of cultural dialogue, artisanal excellence, and the courage to chart new creative waters.
