Boldizar Senteski’s reflective design journey
Born in Budapest in 1992, Boldizar Senteski is a Hungarian object and furniture designer whose work is defined by a dynamic dialogue between opposites—past and future, decay and renewal, instinct and intention. His creations are deeply informed by the layered urban environment of his native city, where the stark lines of post-Soviet Brutalism coexist with the rich detailing of Baroque, Neoclassical, and Art Nouveau architecture. Drawing from this eclectic backdrop, Senteski crafts limited-edition collectible pieces that resonate with both historical weight and modern innovation.
Boldizar Senteski’s design practice is a balance between traditional craftsmanship and industrial processes, driven by a philosophy of experimentation. He believes that materials reveal their essence through the act of making, and this belief guides his intuitive yet precise approach. His interest in the interplay of light and perception—initially developed during his Master’s studies at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest—continues to influence his evolving body of work.
After gaining experience in fashion, art direction, and product design, and refining his vision at the studio of Sebastian ErraZuriz, Senteski established his own studio. Now operating between New York and Budapest, he continues to explore the poetic potential of functional objects. One of his most recognized series is the Void Mirror Collection, a group of sculptural mirror works that blur the lines between design and art. These one-of-a-kind pieces explore reflection not just as a surface but as a medium for introspection, transformation, and impermanence.
The mirrors, handmade using a technique that emphasizes the oxidation of silver, carry the marks of alchemical processes—celebrating unpredictability and the beauty of imperfection. Geometric in form yet ethereal in presence, each object engages viewers with fading reflections and semi-transparent surfaces. Robust shapes echo Brutalist architecture, while delicate ornamental touches offer a romantic counterbalance, embodying Boldizar Senteski’s vision of tension and harmony.
The Void Mirror Collection currently includes a suspended circular mirror, two floor mirrors with cast stone bases, and a bronze console supporting a full-body mirror. Each piece is a meditative invitation to consider not only what is seen but how it is seen, and how perception shifts with time and presence. Through this collection, Boldizar Senteski continues to challenge and expand the boundaries of contemporary design.
