Bombix makes “Silkworm” a song about reaching the life you were trying to reach and discovering that part of you is still somewhere behind. “Reality is kicking in” arrives beside the admission that the narrator spent years trying to escape, only to miss those years once they were gone. The recurring line, “I’m here, but I feel far away,” gives that displacement a physical distance, even though the body has already arrived.
The lyrics keep placing an inner self against a reality that refuses to bend. The narrator can imagine being flexible, but “life’s so rigid”; the floor is wide open, yet gravity is laughing and the world is pinning them in place. The song can move while its narrator remains stuck, which is the point. Everything is happening. They are still trying to arrive.
