The World of Irreversible Change By teamLab
- Dates: May 10 – August 16, 2024
- Location: 510 West 25th Street, New York
Pace Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition, interactive digital artwork by the renowned international collective, teamLab, marking their first solo show in New York in a decade, titled “The World of Irreversible Change”.
The exhibition will feature The World of Irreversible Change projected onto a large, freestanding black wall in a darkened gallery space. Originally presented in spring 2022 at the Aomori Museum of Art in Japan, this screen-based work, developed over five years, is being exhibited as a projection for the first time. The artwork depicts everyday life in an anonymous city during an unspecified epoch, with animated figures moving throughout a panoramic village scene that dynamically changes with the time of day and weather in New York.
The World of Irreversible Change is unique in that it evolves based on viewer interaction. As visitors engage with the artwork, the initially serene and harmonious scenes can become increasingly chaotic. Continuous intervention can escalate individual conflicts into widespread war, transforming the cityscape into a desolate ruin overtaken by nature. This transformation highlights the inherent and universal presence of violence within the human experience. The work explores the intricate relationships between humans and their environment, aiming to inspire new ways of seeing the world.
