Changhoon Nam visualizes ergonomic performance through motion design
Changhoon Nam presents a 3D animation project that translates product performance into a concise visual narrative. Developed for Branch Furniture, the film focuses on the Ergonomic Chair Pro and communicates its functional range through two distinct mood-driven versions, each emphasizing movement, usability, and material articulation within a controlled digital environment.
The project was completed over a period of approximately five to six weeks, structured around the challenge of condensing key product qualities into a 15-second format. The production process was guided by three central components: the chair’s core ergonomic functions, the rhythm and tone of the soundtrack, and the visual direction requested by the client. These elements informed both pacing and composition, ensuring that each sequence contributes directly to the clarity of the product’s design and use.
Departing from a conventional storyboard workflow, Changhoon Nam initiated the process by selecting music before entering a rough previsualization phase. This decision allowed the motion structure to evolve directly from the tempo and atmosphere of the soundtrack. Following approval of the previz, the project advanced into look development, where lighting, material definition, and rendering techniques were refined. Motion graphics and transitions were then calibrated with precision to maintain continuity between sequences and reinforce the chair’s mechanical logic.

The Changhoon Nam animation emphasizes the visualization of movement as a core design language. Adjustable components, structural flexibility, and ergonomic responses are articulated through synchronized motion sequences, ensuring that each function is legible within the short duration. Rather than presenting features as isolated highlights, the animation integrates them into a continuous flow, where timing and rhythm support both aesthetic cohesion and functional understanding.

Sound design played a significant role in reinforcing this structure. The background track was sourced from PremiumBeat, providing a consistent auditory framework. In parallel, custom sound effects were generated using Adobe Firefly’s AI-based audio tools, marking a shift from traditional workflows. These SFX were tailored to match specific interactions within the animation, enhancing the perception of material feedback and mechanical precision without introducing unnecessary complexity.

Produced using Cinema 4D within a CGI pipeline, the project reflects a contemporary approach to product visualization where motion design, 3D modeling, and sound integration operate as a unified system. By aligning animation timing with ergonomic logic, Branch Ergonomic Chair Pro motion design by Changhoon Nam demonstrates how digital media can communicate industrial design through clarity, rhythm, and controlled visual sequencing.
