Copper Collection 2024 by Manu Bañó
Steeped in a long tradition of goldsmith craftsmanship, this quaint town becomes the backdrop for the latest exploration in the world of design: Copper Collection 2024 by Manu Bañó. The new collection delves into the intrinsic properties of copper, transforming thin sheets of this versatile metal into intricate, three-dimensional works of art.
Manu Bañó, an internationally acclaimed designer known for his minimalist approach and expertise in metalwork, continues to push the boundaries of design with his innovative use of copper. Born in Valencia, Spain, in 1990, Bañó was raised in a creative and experimental environment, thanks to his artist mother and designer father. This early exposure to artistic techniques and materials sparked a lifelong passion for craftsmanship and design.
The Essence of Copper: From Two-Dimensional to Three-Dimensional
The Copper Collection 2024 is produced in collaboration with local artisans from Santa Clara del Cobre. These craftsmen, traditionally accustomed to creating smaller copper objects, have meticulously crafted the pieces in this collection. The process begins with the hammering of thin copper sheets, which are then manipulated to gain strength and take on three-dimensional forms.
OBJ-08 Sculptural Wall Mirrors
One of the highlights of Copper Collection 2024 is the OBJ-08 Sculptural Wall Mirrors. This series explores the reflective properties of copper, which, when polished, generates a mirror-like surface. These sculptural pieces occupy the space that would typically be taken by a painting on a wall. Each set consists of two symmetrical pieces, one concave and the other convex, designed to be displayed together as a unified work of art. The untreated finish of the copper retains the marks of its production process, adding a raw, authentic touch to the pieces.
OBJ-08 Sculptural Floor Mirror
The collection also features the OBJ-08 Sculptural Floor Mirror, composed of two identical and symmetrical pieces polished on both faces. The hammering process not only imparts texture but also deforms the copper to create volume and structure, allowing the piece to stand independently. This monolithic object occupies the space typically reserved for sculptures and serves as a testament to its own manufacturing process, offering an honest, formal exercise devoid of intellectual pretensions.
