INTRODUCTION

My name is Dorian Renard (b. 1995), I’m from France and curentlly live and work in Eindhoven, Netherlands. My practice oscillates between a fascination for materials and their mediated meanings. Through a sculptural and sensitive approach, my work challenges our perception of materiality in a sensitive yet conscious way. Driven by an exploration of the subversive use of crafting techniques, that bears the signs of being shaped by human hands.

WORKING PROCESS

It came from this fascination for glass and looking at the craftsmen employing their knowledge into this ever changing material struck me, I wanted to look at plastic with the same admiration. Interested by subversive use of crafting techniques, I started to explore, translate the glass blowing techniques into this material. The idea was to confront the plastic to a new notion of beauty, one that is alluringly twist and bent instead of being industrially morose.

MATERIAL

Acrylic (hand dyed)

INSPIRATION

My insparation come from certain artist/designers as Jack Rogers Hopkins or Wendell Castle. Otherwise, Misha Kahn for his imagination in creating new relations between materials and techniques, and Matthew Szösz for his innovative use of glass.
