FRAME creates cinematic tribute for GUBI’s reissue of Tobia Scarpa’s Elogio sofa
FRAME collaborated with Danish design house GUBI to present a cinematic interpretation of the reissued Elogio sofa, a piece that bridges five decades of design evolution.
Originally created in 1974 by Tobia and Afra Scarpa, the Elogio was conceived as an evolution of the Erasmo sofa and introduced a new language of modular living.
This latest edition, refined by Tobia Scarpa in partnership with GUBI, honors the timeless vision of the original while adapting it for contemporary interiors defined by flexibility, material depth, and architectural precision.
The Elogio sofa embodies a quiet sophistication where proportion and tactility coexist in a language of modern comfort. Its three modular elements — two with side panels and one central armless unit — allow for multiple arrangements.
From linear compositions to asymmetrical lounge settings, the system adapts to the spatial and emotional rhythms of modern life.
This adaptability positions Elogio as both furniture and framework, capable of transforming according to the scale and atmosphere of any setting, whether residential or hospitality-oriented.
Revisited with meticulous attention to geometry, the updated Elogio maintains the sculptural rigor of the 1970s while introducing an enhanced ergonomic experience.
The cushions, identical in size and interchangeable, enable users to subtly shift function and form, giving the sofa a kinetic quality. Through this reconfigurability, Elogio extends beyond static furniture — it becomes an evolving element within the architecture of daily life.
GUBI’s curated textile palette deepens the sensorial dialogue of the design. The new Reales cotton fabric introduces a refined crispness, while Fustagno, a reinterpretation of fustian, adds a velvety tactility with remarkable depth.
These materials, along with leather and suede options, amplify the visual and textural richness of the sofa. The result is a synthesis of comfort and discipline, where every detail is intentional and the craftsmanship speaks to longevity and restraint.
Elogio, meaning “praise” in Italian, encapsulates an appreciation for the rituals of domestic living. It stands as a tribute to the intersection of architecture, design, and emotion — a system that celebrates the beauty of structure softened by use, and precision warmed by touch.
