“As a purpose in my creation process, I always try to use geometric shapes and seemingly obvious structures to demonstrate and touch everyone who may have the opportunity to contemplate what I create.” – Maurício Coelho
The Iron coffee table is precisely an expression of this simplicity and obviousness, through the junction of robust elements of basic geometries, but not simplistic. The great proposal of this piece is to unite elements that apparently are not harmonious among themselves, but that talk perfectly when carefully and intelligently arranged. The central sphere is an important and essential part of this design, since, besides contributing structurally, it is the balancing object of the piece. The iron structure offers support to this balance and determines structural firmness to the laminated wood top worked in marquetry. Besides, the rounded shapes, a remarkable characteristic in my designs, give the visual lightness, harmony, functionality, and safety.
