YKB collection by Jiri Krejcirik
Jiri Krejcirik, an award-winning designer based in Prague, continues to redefine the boundaries between art and design with his distinctive creations. Known for his expertise in glass, lighting, and furniture, Krejcirik’s practice encompasses a wide range of disciplines, from product and interior design to spatial concepts.
His meticulous attention to context, process, and detail creates a portfolio that seamlessly weaves historical and cultural influences with a contemporary sensibility, often carrying an element of the unexpected. Each of his works demonstrates a commitment to the Czech tradition of craftsmanship, being locally hand-crafted in limited series and displayed in select galleries and design showrooms across Europe and the United States, including the prestigious Rossana Orlandi Gallery in Milan.
One of his standout creations is the YKB collection, which exemplifies his dedication to both functionality and artistic expression. The YKB sculptural commode, designed for a private residence in Prague, is a prime example of Krejcirik’s ability to blend decorativism and modernism.
Its flowing sculptural relief creates a rhythmic elegance while maintaining practical functionality through its innovative grip. Crafted from lacquered ash and beech wood, the commode expands the YKB family, reinforcing its cohesive visual narrative across luminaires and seating.
The YKB luminaire stands as a monumental interpretation of this narrative, harmoniously combining lacquered solid ash wood, brushed brass, and metal-coated glass spheres. This striking design pays homage to Czech architect Jan Kotěra and Slovak architect Dušan Jurkovič, echoing their decorative yet modernist ethos. Through its carefully balanced materials and dimmable LED light sources, the luminaire captures the essence of Krejcirik’s authorial vision—an authentic dialogue between historical reverence and innovative design.
Both pieces in the YKB collection underscore Krejcirik’s ability to distill complex influences into a coherent and visually arresting aesthetic. The result is a body of work that feels simultaneously rooted in tradition and refreshingly contemporary, offering a bold yet nuanced contribution to the field of design.
