Skybox Artist
Job Description
Digital Extremes is looking for a Skybox Artist to join our team. You will join a small team working on a demanding artistic project. Your comfort with art theory will be tested by a wide range of settings from landscapes to sci-fi space scenes to surreal abstractions. You should have a good understanding of modern DCC applications. You'll also need a strong portfolio that demonstrates your craft applied to the high sci-fi sets we create. A perfect candidate will be allowed to work in an Agile environment. An excellent understanding of effective game production techniques, training or experience in traditional art as well as strong compositional skills and an understanding of color theory are preferred assets.
Responsibilities:
- Use traditional art training and knowledge of 3D art, design, and computer graphics software to create effective, high-quality skybox assets and compositions.
- Translate 2D concepts and target images into 3D reality, including modeling, texturing, UV mapping, and more.
- Work closely with the Art Director and Lead Artist to understand the creative direction and ensure proper execution of the game's visual design
- Bring innovative and original ideas to all artistic aspects of game production and development
- Deliver the work on time and according to the schedule prepared by the Art Director
- Actively participate in the feedback loop, including accepting feedback from the art team and providing feedback within the art team as needed, staying on top of project scope and understanding
- Coordinate with production and the team on the generation and delivery of marketing assets as defined by the schedule
- Multitask, prioritize competing demands, and track details
- Support and mentor other artists who are less experienced and need more direction
Requirements:
- 3+ years of knowledge in the video game industry
- University degree in visual arts with specialization in graphic design, commercial art, graphic communication or comics OR college diploma in graphic arts
- A portfolio that demonstrates an excellent ability to work from concept, modeling and texturing
- Deep lighting skills creating normal maps and applying shaders
- Above average ability to model, texturize, and optimize props and assets for a state-of-the-art next-gen game engine
- Possess exemplary oral and written communication skills
- Experience with a modeling program like Max, ZBrush and Photoshop
- Experience with World Machine, Vray, Houdini FX, FumeFX,
- Experience with Very Beneficial Substance products
- Have a genuine interest and enthusiasm for Warframe

Skills and Requirements:
- At least 2 years as a concept artist, including PC, console and AAA development work.
- Ability to quickly scan through thumbnails/sketches/drafts digitally and bring concepts to final color rendering as needed.
- Ability to work with the following subjects in a variety of genres: characters (costumes, weapons), creatures, and VFX (visual processing and animation keyframes for VFX, spells, or others).
- Ability to receive and implement feedback and provide written and visual feedback to external artists as needed.
- Excellent fundamental artistic skills in areas such as anatomy, shape language, color, composition, lighting, perspective and communication in a clear emotional tone, with a stronger focus on creative problem solving via iterative concept art on polished renderings or illustrations.
- Strong understanding of current video game concept art processes and pipelines.

The Technical Artist will have the option to change key design thought regarding game and mechanics, prototyping, development, and art. We create our own product and control every stage of development - from initial ideas to final stages of implementation.
Responsibilities:
- Creation of procedural generation systems for game levels
- Develop and optimize graphics systems and shaders
- Participate in the making of game elements and mechanics, from sample to final concept.
- Participation in the creation of visual effects
Skills and Requirements:
- At least 3 years of professional skills in game development
- Experience working in Unity
- C# scripting skills
- Experience making shaders, both manually and using node-based editors
- Familiarity with any 3D editor

Senior VFX Artist
Job Details
As a senior VFX artist on the team, you will be required to work daily alongside designers, other artists, programmers and producers, conceptualizing and creating a wide range of visual effects for our games that achieve the goals of production and quality set for the project. You will also work closely with the Senior Visual Effects Artist to define the style and quality standard of the games.
You will need to estimate timelines for your tasks in advance and provide milestones as part of the development process. You must be able to show creative leadership to the VFX team, inspiring them to work to their best and take pride in what they invent.
Role You Play:
- Responsible for conceptualizing and creating a wide range of visual effects for the game, in line with the game design and vision.
- Creation of high-quality game-specific and cinematic visual effects using an in-house editor and bundled packages (Maya and Photoshop).
- Liaise with build artists and code regarding placement and triggering of gameplay specific visual effects.
- Communicate any game design risks or concerns that impact the schedule.
- Work with the VFX Manager and Art Director to ensure consistency between the vision and the implementation of effects.
- Work closely with other departments on large effect levels to balance frame rate.
- Make sure the job/level meets all memory and frame rate guides/restrictions for all required platforms.
- Understand that changes and amendments are part of the pipeline.
- Responsible for planning and prioritizing assigned workload within given deadlines.
- Attend meetings to note VFX requirements in conjunction with Level Director
- Help mentor other VFX artists and lead by example.
- Document and communicate to the team clear technical guidelines for visual effects creation and real-time implementation.
- Solve an assortment of complex art/VFX development problems for other VFX artists.
- Work closely with the Visual Effects Manager and Engine Programmers to create future tools and improve pipelines and graphics potential.
- Actively develop and improve skill set by keeping up to date with industry trends and techniques, evaluating competing products and learning new software packages.
- Undertake relevant on-the-job training as required.
- Support the main artist in all ad hoc tasks and functions.

Qualifications & Experience:
- Outstanding portfolio demonstrating VFX work.
- Demonstrable production experience as a VFX artist in the games industry, preferably on console titles.
