Associate Technical Director
Job Details
Gearbox needs a Technical Leader to join our high caliber publishing team. In this position, you will help several external teams present their vision to audiences around the world. The ideal candidate has experience working in the development trenches in direct or indirect leadership roles and is familiar with all aspects of game development and publishing responsibilities. You will need to contact different roles and teams with a high degree of emotional intelligence. The right candidate will deliver world-class entertainment experiences by working with the publishing and gaming teams to help find effective solutions to difficult problems.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively support the project team on a day-to-day basis, helping to identify technical risks/issues and guiding them through the development process
- Oversaw the building of a diverse portfolio of games, assisting various development, publishing and production teams
- Help define and review external milestone deliverables
- Work with production staff and other managers to establish engineering goals and subsequent schedule requirements across multiple programming and technology disciplines to meet project deadlines and budgets
- Provide feedback for titles at all stages of development, from inception to release
- Identify process/tool improvement opportunities and directly implement these initiatives with the goal of improving the quality of play, team effectiveness and fostering a positive work atmosphere
- Maintain communications with all team members, team leaders and senior management
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of leadership experience as a lead programmer, lead engineer, or associate technical director in a video game studio or publisher
- 3+ years of software development experience
- Shipped at least two AAA titles (console, PC, or mobile)
- Experience in identifying and supporting external teams
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages and operating system environments
Expert knowledge in one or more major functional areas of game development and publishing:
- Audio
- Chart
- Gameplay
- Engine systems
- Tools and pipeline
- Release Engineering
- Back-end and cloud services
- Online game / multiplayer
- Understanding of risk management principles and demonstrated ability to put them into practice
- Customer service oriented, doing what it takes to help partners succeed while establishing clear lines of accountability
Bonus points for:
- Unity Engine or Unreal Engine 4 experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or an applicable field or equivalent experience

- Understanding of node-based tools/engines and/or programming/scripting
- Expert with VFX editors and real-time particle systems
- Skills of Maya, 3DSMAX and/or other commercial 3D authoring packages
- Knowledge with Houdini is a bonus
- Experience as an animator, modeler and/or texture artist is a plus
- Additional experience in the film or similar industry is considered an advantage
- Experience in outsourcing and co-development is a plus

Animation Technical Director
Job Details
We needed an experienced specialist with a strong technical director who can both take over the technical management of game.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the creative development of the project;
- Take responsibility for the development of tools and a script library;
- Work closely with other animators on the creation of their animation with the tools available;
- Work and cooperate with all departments in game development;
- Provide the Core Direction team with technical solutions to raise the quality bar of the final product;
- Work closely with the Motion Caption studio team to ensure the pipeline is clear and efficient between Mocap sessions and processing data once rendered into animation;
- Support the Mocap team in processing Mocap data by giving training, developing automation tools, etc.;
- Technical property of the Motion Capture pipeline for creating characters and integrating them into the game.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in 3D animation or equivalent/experience;
- 8+ years of 3D animation experience in the video game industry, at least 1 year as an animation technical director;
- Minimum of 2 titles published; New generation experience a plus;
- 2+ years of scripting or programming experience (Maya Tool Scripting a plus;
- Experience in resolving tool or script issues in a timely and efficient manner;
- Excellent ability to organize and structure own work;
Technical skills:
- Working knowledge of hardware platform limitations;
- Knowledge of animation software including Motionbuilder and Maya;
- Knowledge of animation pipelines (cinematic and in-game);
- Knowledge and experience in building animation trees;
- Excellent knowledge of motion capture data processing and retargeting;
- Ability to multi-task;
- Excellent ability to give and receive advice;
- Excellent technical knowledge of video game publishers and production stages;
- Excellent communication skills and an ability to illustrate their ideas are essential;
- Knowledge of character creation in a technical sense essential (including rigging, skinning, etc.).
Interpersonal Qualities:
- Demonstrate leadership when collaborating with the various trades (design, animation and programming);
- Ability to work within a team focused on continuous improvement;
- Ability to share knowledge and learn from others;
- Maturity to give and receive constructive criticism is expected;

Archetype Entertainment needs an industry leading VFX Artist with strong skills and experience to join us on an exciting, unannounced project! Candidates should have extensive knowledge of working with Unreal's Niagara or Cascade, Houdini, and the various other VFX tools to achieve the necessary effects for cutscenes and gameplay. You'll play a key role in defining the overall look of the game's visual effects through all-natural elements. This role requires a keen sense of timing, color, gameplay, and cinematic sequences to deliver maximum visual impact throughout the game.
Responsibilities:
- Create a wide range of visual effects in an epic sci-fi universe.
- Deliver high-fidelity artwork through prototypes, iterations, and final stages of development using simulation techniques and effects technologies
- Facilitate and improve VFX pipelines in collaboration with engineering and technical art teams
- Inspire, mentor and encourage other VFX artists as a senior lead or leader
Qualifications:
- Five or more years of targeted game development experience as a senior VFX artist or equivalent
- Experience creating content in a production environment using Houdini, Maya and other software; Python scripts are a plus
- Gameplay experience is helpful, along with an exceptional eye for cinematic and narrative sequences
- The ability to contribute, interpret and clearly communicate visual direction within a team.
- Able to collaborate effectively with game designers and programmers, with a collaborative approach to problem solving and prototyping.
- A passion for deep and captivating sci-fi stories and role-playing games.
