Jorja Smith: Dancing.

Cover artwork for Jorja Smith track "Dancing".

Jorja Smith’s “Dancing” sublimates an old relationship with one last night by refusing to ask whether getting back together is a good idea. “Do you wanna go dancing?” comes before everything else, followed by holding hands, taking chances, getting close. She knows they used to be lovers and that some time has passed, but the music gives them a way to step briefly back into something they both remember, finding intimacy in quiet retreat much like Terra Renae: Slightly Faded.

The song keeps that return deliberately temporary. “I held your heart as my own” recalls what they had, while “I miss that feeling” admits that memory alone is not enough. She does not want to know what is right, and she does not care what anyone says. The repeated “last” turns the dance into a deadline, but one that keeps getting postponed: it was over, “over for now,” until they have one more dance.

That makes the repetition part of the romance. The “La La La” phrases circle back through the music, spinning and moving until the word “last” arrives again. There is no promise beyond the night. Just two people who know the ending and keep dancing toward it—an unspoken emotional suspension that mirrors the magnetic tension of oktehya: complicated.
