Joseph Algieri Designs The Rippling Pleated Table Lamps

It’s kind of a departure from my standard ceramic work, but in a way still has a similar language to everything else that happens in my studio.

Pleated table lamps are made from the excess pressure of a clay extruder, meaning the ripples and pleases created are from force and gaps within the machine. They come out at specific rates which allow the pleats to fold onto themselves. While they’re still wet, I press them together over a jig, then fire and wire the lamps. They consist of over-fired earthenware, which is then spray finished.
