The 90D dining experience by Jun Ong and Toraik Chua in Kuala Lumpur
90D immersive dining is a 90-day experiential dining project staged on level 50 of a Kerry Hill Architects-designed skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur. Chef Toraik Chua and light artist Jun Ong collaborate to construct a multi-sensory environment anchored by the monumental light installation “Big Bang. Positioned in the center of Kuala Lumpur’s skyline, the project operates as a temporary architecture of experience, combining haute cuisine, spatial storytelling, and responsive design into a single, time-limited format.
The 90D immersive dining Kuala Lumpur experience is structured as a sequence of spatial and sensory transitions, where guests move through a carefully timed progression of courses and atmospheres. Each phase is calibrated through lighting, sound, and material shifts, turning the dining room into a controlled narrative environment. Jun Ong’s “Big Bang” installation acts as both visual anchor and conceptual driver, translating astronomical references into a luminous system that evolves throughout the evening, altering perception and scale within the room.
Material choices and spatial configuration reinforce this performative structure. Custom-designed furniture, integrated lighting systems, and reflective surfaces are engineered to respond to programmed cues, allowing the environment to transform in synchrony with each course. This alignment between physical setting and culinary rhythm positions the project between installation, performance, and temporary architecture, where the boundaries between disciplines are intentionally dissolved.
Chef Toraik Chua’s contribution operates in parallel, translating narrative concepts into a series of dishes that emphasize precision, sequencing, and sensory layering.
