Kidoo: Beat Boyz

Kidoo: Beat Boyz

Kidoo keeps´s “Beat Boyz” has the physical pull of house: a four-to-the-floor kick, hi-hats and off-beat shuffles disturbing the regularity around it. A muted clap lands on the second and fourth beats, and metallic clicks slip through the percussion without filling the gaps. The groove stays recognizable from the first bar, but it does not sit still.

The bassline with short and percussive notes, matching the clipped movement of the drums. A filtered chord stab returns with a slight delay, its low-pass filter opening. Then, plucked synth notes appear around the bar changes rather than running through the whole track, so the arrangement has places where the rhythm can breathe.

The rounded bass tone and softened chord keep the palette close to early house, while the tight programming gives “Beat Boyz” a cleaner present-day edge. Kidoo leaves the groove exposed enough that the small details matter. The kick lands, the clap follows, and the chord comes back.
