Liberty Cap turn Kafka’s transformation inside out in “metamorphosis.” Not waking as something diminished and alien, but finding himself transformed into a literal star, suspended above the world and carried through the cosmos. The change is wondrous rather than grotesque, but the central question remains: what happens to your sense of self when you suddenly become something unrecognizable?
That question follows the transformation beyond its spectacle. “How would you carry on?” and “Would you change your mind?” bring the narrator back to choices, while becoming a star also changes how he might see and treat others. The image gradually moves from private discovery toward responsibility. Carrying light into darkness becomes inseparable from the possibility that transformation could extend beyond one person.
“metamorphosis” therefore keeps one foot in the human world even as its narrator drifts through the heavens. The song does not present transformation as an escape from uncertainty. Becoming a star means facing the same questions from a different scale, with the possibility of hope attached to what the narrator chooses to do with that new form.
