Lobo Gris, SAK: Cenizas

Lobo Gris, SAK: Cenizas

Lobo Gris and SAK make no attempt to soften the political anger behind “Cenizas.” The song takes aim at government corruption, the rise of the extreme right and the loss of civil and human rights. Its repeated accusation, “Presidenta asesina,” gives the protest a specific target, while the references to bullets, political leaders and the streets bring the conflict down to the lives of ordinary people.

The chorus calls for Congress and the presidential palace to burn, using fire as an image of total rejection of the political order; inequality, protest and the damage caused by political decisions. The lines about leaving everything in ashes give the song a blunt, confrontational voice. There is no attempt to turn its message into a subtle metaphor or hide behind ambiguous language. “Cenizas” is a protest statement, joined by the demand for change and the image of a crowd refusing to remain silent. Lobo Gris and SAK leave little room for a neutral reading: this is a song written from opposition, and it makes that position unmistakable.
