Lucas Zito’s Monumenta elevates spaces while championing a future-conscious ethos
Lucas Zito‘s Monumenta represents a compelling fusion of innovation, artistry, and sustainability in lighting design. This series, a striking evolution of the Buoy project, captures the designer’s commitment to redefining the interplay between functionality and aesthetics while embedding eco-conscious principles into every creation.
The Monumenta lamps are characterized by their grand scale, with buoy modules that more than double the dimensions of their predecessors. This amplification in size inherently conveys an air of solemnity and grandeur, transforming the lamps into architectural statements. The manufacturing process, rooted in advanced 3D printing technologies, becomes an artistic element itself, with visible layering that accentuates the craftsmanship behind each piece.
The modular composition, despite its substantial weight, achieves a delicate balance between stability and the ethereal impression of floating, further emphasizing its vertical elegance. With a towering potential height exceeding six meters, Monumenta redefines possibilities for large-scale lighting installations.
Lucas Zito’s expertise in material innovation plays a pivotal role in the uniqueness of Monumenta. The lamps are crafted from plastic derived from corn starch, a material both ecological and recyclable, sourced and manufactured in Europe. This choice underscores his commitment to minimizing environmental impact without compromising on design or functionality.
The production process allows extensive customization, offering architects and designers the flexibility to adapt the sequence of modules and the overall dimensions—ranging from 40 to 700 centimeters in height and 30 to 100 centimeters in diameter—to the specific needs of a space. Whether suspended vertically across multiple floors, positioned horizontally above a dining table, or integrated seamlessly into residential, commercial, or scenographic environments, the versatility of these creations is unparalleled.
Graduating from the Design Academy of Eindhoven and later establishing his practice in France in 2019, Lucas Zito has continuously demonstrated a forward-thinking approach to design. His work reflects a nuanced understanding of both aesthetic appeal and environmental responsibility, merging cutting-edge technology with sustainable materials. By designing lighting solutions that are as adaptable as they are innovative, Zito addresses modern architectural demands while remaining deeply attuned to ecological concerns.
