Make Believe Love: Organic Growth

Make Believe Love: Organic Growth

Make Believe Love´s “Organic Growth” is a joke that keeps getting less funny the longer it runs. The lyrics pile up genre tags, playlist names, marketing language, and platform rituals until a three-minute song becomes another product trying to survive a system that measures music through visibility. “My 3-minute opus has no chance” establishes the problem before the refrain delivers its punchline: “Organic growth” becomes a corporate metric masquerading as artistic virtue.

The speaker knows the rules well enough to resent them and follow them anyway. The bridge gets cut, the fat gets trimmed, and a hook arrives thirty seconds in, yet the algorithm still responds with a shadow ban. Even the language of discovery becomes hostile: “If you don’t trend, then you don’t speak.” The references to Discover Weekly, Fresh Finds Indie, POLLEN and other playlist spaces turn the song into a catalogue of places where recognition might happen, while “Intern gods in ergonomic chairs” gives the machinery a human shape without making it any more reachable.

By the final verse, the joke has narrowed into something almost plain: “I’ll die unknown but at least I’m tryin’.” That line matters because it drops the marketing vocabulary for a moment and leaves the person underneath it. The chant returns, but “organic growth” no longer sounds like a promise. It sounds like something someone else gets to measure.
