Miguel Chevalier’s ‘Digital Beauty’ Redefines Art in Seoul
Renowned digital artist Miguel Chevalier has brought his groundbreaking solo show, “Digital Beauty,” to Seoul, captivating audiences with a mesmerizing exploration of the intersection between technology and art. As a trailblazer in the realm of digital art, Chevalier delves into the intricate and often imperceptible complexities of the natural world through his dynamic creations.
Breaking new ground with his avant-garde approach, Chevalier leverages computer models borrowed from the realms of physics, chemistry, and biology to craft vibrant and ever-evolving artistic compositions. His immersive, generative, and interactive virtual reality installations unfold on a grand scale across five levels, seamlessly adapting to the unique architectural space of the Ara Art Center in Seoul. Among the 14 captivating installations showcased, four are brand new additions, with the standout being the mesmerizing “Attractors Dance.”
Collaborating with artist Patrick Tresset, Chevalier introduces the “Attractors Dance,” a remarkable five-armed drawing robot that adds a layer of surprise and innovation to the exhibition. The artistic journey is further enriched by the musical compositions of Claude Micheli, elevating the overall experience for visitors.
Echoing the spirit of 20th-century art movements like kinetic art, optical art, and geometric abstraction, Chevalier’s playful installations present a distinctive visual vocabulary. Comprising pixels, networks, flows, and algorithmic geometries, these artworks transport viewers into a realm where the boundaries between the digital and physical blur.
“Digital Beauty” invites contemplation on the concept of digital infinity and prompts a reevaluation of our connection with reality. Through poetic and hypnotic works, Chevalier endeavors to offer insights into our contemporary world, restoring the human experience to the forefront in an era marked by increasing dematerialization.
