Mr. Besk transforms a solid stainless-steel volume into a complete seating arrangement
Mr. Besk has designed MONOLITH.TABLE as a stainless-steel table in which the seating is integrated directly into a solid rectangular body. Measuring 200 centimetres long, 100 centimetres wide and 75 centimetres high, the piece appears at first as a closed metal volume, with the tabletop, side panels and supporting structure forming a continuous geometric composition. Flush panels positioned along the exterior open to reveal seats built into the structure, allowing the object to shift between a compact monolithic form and a functional table arrangement.
When the panels are closed, they sit almost level with the surrounding surfaces and preserve the visual continuity of the stainless-steel body. Small blue handles indicate where the openings are located and introduce the only strong colour accent across the otherwise uniform material palette. Once opened, the panels expose the seating inside and change the relationship between the object and the person using it, turning what initially reads as a sealed volume into an accessible piece of furniture.
The entire structure is finished in brushed stainless steel, which reinforces the industrial character of the design and draws attention to the sharp edges, flat planes and precise rectangular proportions. The material gives the table a controlled and consistent surface from every side, while the blue handles interrupt the silver finish with a small functional detail. A graphic symbol positioned near the corners adds another visual element without disturbing the overall geometry of the object.
The seating is designed as part of the table itself, with each seat positioned inside an opening in the main volume rather than arranged as an independent chair around it. This allows the table to maintain a compact footprint when closed and creates a more ordered relationship between the different functional elements. The opening panels also become part of the visual transformation, changing the table from an enclosed block into a configuration that immediately reveals how it is intended to be used.
MONOLITH.TABLE is defined by this contrast between enclosure and access, with the same structure performing two different roles depending on whether the seating is visible or stored within the body. The design avoids additional decorative components and relies instead on proportion, material and mechanism, using the monolithic form as both the visual identity of the piece and the framework that contains its function.
