Experience tranquility and culture at Artyzen New Bund 31 hotel designed by Neri&Hu

Artyzen NEW BUND 31 Shanghai, designed by Neri&Hu, stands as a remarkable urban sanctuary within Shanghai’s bustling Pudong District. Nestled in the Qiantan development area, this flagship property serves as a central destination encompassing an office tower, a shopping center, and a state-of-the-art performing arts center, which shares its adjacency and design language with the hotel.

This proximity to the performing arts center establishes a dynamic fusion of cultural and leisure spaces, creating an innovative typology where individual relaxation and community engagement converge. While the performing arts center embodies the district’s cultural core, Artyzen NEW BUND 31 Shanghai emerges as a calming oasis, guiding guests on a thoughtful journey of urban retreat and refined discovery.

Upon arrival, guests are greeted at ground level in a subtly detailed lobby, exuding a sense of tranquility amidst Shanghai’s high-rise landscape. Here, a textured concrete façade with scalloped accents echoes the architectural rhythm of the neighboring performing arts center, establishing a visual dialogue between the two spaces.

This design of Artyzen New Bund 31 approach extends inside, where an expansive ceiling cutout floods the lobby with natural light, softening the structure’s monolithic presence and adding warmth to its grand scale. Ascending from the lobby, guests are transported to the fifth-floor podium, a central hub where they can explore a series of interconnected public spaces, including reception, dining venues, lounges, and a tapas bar.

The design merges these areas within a continuous stone landscape that acts as a unifying foundation, giving guests the sense of wandering through a tranquil environment removed from the city’s intensity. Each Artyzen New Bund 31 venue space takes form as a pavilion, offering both indoor and outdoor settings that invite leisurely movement and contemplation. These garden-like outdoor spaces provide a rare respite within Shanghai, a breath of serenity amidst the city’s lively rhythm.

This interplay of urban energy and natural serenity extends to the 202 guest rooms, which are situated within the tower’s upper levels. Drawing inspiration from the harmonious elements of traditional Chinese gardens, each guest room integrates soft white plaster with carved grey stone surfaces, imparting an aesthetic that is both modern and rooted in cultural memory. The rooms’ warm wooden platforms and bronze accents create a sense of understated luxury, while custom furnishings by Neri&Hu introduce comfort and a casual sophistication, transforming each space into a refined urban retreat.

This design approach of Artyzen New Bund 31 results in an environment where nature-inspired textures and thoughtful details offer a unique blend of luxury, comfort, and cultural homage, embodying the hotel’s ethos of offering an urban sanctuary for guests seeking a peaceful yet vibrant stay in Shanghai.
