The Nirvana House integrates harmoniously with its natural surroundings
The Nirvana House by AtelierM arises from the need to create a residential space that transcends conventional boundaries and integrates harmoniously and disruptively with its natural surroundings. Located in Pilar, Buenos Aires, facing a Polo field, the house stands as a symbol of innovation and creativity, merging residential functionality with the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The design is inspired by topographical play, starting from the terrain’s topography to then create a three-level garden that merges with the architecture, generating a unique and exciting experience for its inhabitants.
The main concept behind this project is total integration with the natural environment, both visually and sensorially. Nirvana House is conceived as a living element in the landscape, with gentle curves and fluid lines that adapt to the terrain and merge with the surrounding vegetation. The choice of materials such as concrete and wood is based on their ability to age gracefully and withstand the elements, ensuring a lasting and sustainable integration with the environment.
The distribution of the house is organized into two clearly differentiated levels: the ground floor, of a public nature, and the upper floor, for private use. On the ground floor, there are the living, dining, and kitchen spaces, designed in an open and fluid manner to maximize connection with the exterior. Large windows and sliding doors allow natural light to flood the spaces, creating a sense of spaciousness and luminosity. The three-level garden extends from the ground to the ceiling, culminating in an overlook facing the polo field, integrating vegetation organically and breaking conventional boundaries between interior and exterior, up and down.
On the upper floor are the bedrooms and private areas, designed to offer privacy and comfort to its inhabitants. From this level, panoramic views of the polo field and the surrounding landscape can be enjoyed, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and contemplation. The water pond at the heart of the house acts as a central element, reflecting natural light and blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior, creating a sense of serenity and connection with nature.
Nirvana House is conceived with a marked sustainable imprint, seeking efficiency in the use of natural resources and the reduction of its environmental impact. Orientation and passive design are employed to maximize natural lighting and ventilation, reducing the dependence on artificial systems.
Additionally, a palette of low-maintenance noble materials, such as concrete and wood, is used, aging gracefully and integrating harmoniously with the natural environment. Its disruptive design and commitment to the natural environment make it an inspiring example of how architecture can transform and enrich our connection with the world around us.
