At Zyme Studio, every project is approached with an effort to create the conditions for feedback, the idea that every space built has the power to evoke.
Climbing with natural rock formations, this heavy mass attempts to illustrate the importance of the desert landscape to the human form – on an insignificant scale. Using forced vision with zero and form, the user is led through an artificial canyon, designed to create tension before the entrance is released.
Upon entering the home, the hatches face away from traffic, allowing clearance, views and cross ventilation. Deep overhangs and solid walls mimic the heaviness of the stone surrounding the house and provide shade, as well as thermal heating and cooling for the space. The shape drapes over the hillside, weaving between the rocks with neat views from every public and private space.
