The Grand Palais Immersif in Paris is set to open its doors to the first major Parisian exhibition “PIXELS” dedicated to Miguel Chevalier, a renowned pioneer in digital art, on November 4, 2024. Running until April 6, 2025, the exhibition will offer visitors an immersive journey through the visionary world of Chevalier, who has been shaping the digital art scene since the 1980s. Spanning two floors and 1,200 square meters, the exhibition invites the audience to explore the boundaries of digital art and artificial intelligence. The integration of real and virtual elements transforms each pixel into a dynamic gateway to a constantly evolving reality.

Miguel Chevalier’s groundbreaking work continues to push the limits of contemporary art, with interactive, generative installations that explore themes such as digital identity, surveillance, and the relationship between humans and machines. The exhibition “PIXELS” will feature new video works, 3D-printed sculptures, and luminous creations resembling totems that guide visitors through the space. Each installation encourages the public, both young and old, to engage with the art, creating a dynamic and ever-changing experience.

“PIXELS” is an emotional, sensory, and futuristic journey. Designed in collaboration with architect Sylvie Jodar and Nicolas Gaudelet from Voxels Productions, the scenography amplifies the artistic experience, turning the space into an experimental playground. Visitors in constant motion redefine the art as they move through vibrant colors, mirrored effects, and fluid installations that stimulate the imagination. Each work interacts with its environment, making the entire exhibition a poetic laboratory questioning our relationship with technology.

The thematic focus on “the line and the pixel” allows Miguel Chevalier to delve into the invisible networks that structure our daily lives, from communication flows and data exchanges to cosmic and metaphysical phenomena. His recent works, deeply influenced by advancements in artificial intelligence, explore the growing impact of algorithmic systems and the nature of AI-generated images, questioning how technology shapes our perception of the world.

A unique artistic collaboration with composer Thomas Roussel enhances the immersive experience. Roussel created two original musical pieces for the works CyberEspace/Data Landscapes and Maillages Cosmiques, blending music enriched with artificial intelligence with Chevalier’s visual universe. This collaboration creates a multi-sensory experience where sound and image intertwine in a continuous dialogue.

The exhibition “PIXELS” marks a milestone for the Grand Palais Immersif. According to Charles Carcopino, the artistic director of GPI, the project showcases Miguel Chevalier’s immersive and interactive world, which has been shaped by algorithms and AI. It explores the intersection of organic and synthetic, material and virtual realms in the post-digital era. Delphine de Canecaude, president of the Grand Palais Immersif, emphasizes the importance of creating a cultural experience that is both emotional and interactive, stating that the exhibition aims to go beyond mere projections to offer a deeper, more volumetric and story-driven experience.

For Miguel Chevalier, this exhibition titled “PIXELS” represents an exploration of the intersection between reality and the virtual, probing the impact of artificial intelligence and technology on our perception of the world. Chevalier expresses his gratitude to the Grand Palais Immersif for the opportunity to present this visionary work in such an exceptional setting.
