Thank you so much to the esteemed artist, Rank SSS, for sparing some of her precious time to speak with us about her artistry! We are so very humbled and excited to learn more about the stunning work you create. Without further ado, please tell our readers about who Rank SSS is all about. What drives you to do the work you do?
Thank you for your kind words. My passion lies in creating art that resonates with people in a profound way, evoking nostalgia for childhood memories and the comfort of home. Drawing inspiration from my rural upbringing surrounded by nature and my studies in bioclimatic architecture, where I blend modern architecture with nature, each piece I create reflects my life experiences.
My art serves as a conduit for expressing my thoughts, emotions, and observations of the world. I constantly challenge myself and my audience to explore new concepts in digital art, pushing boundaries to offer a fresh perspective. Ultimately, my art is a form of communication, allowing me to share my perspective and emotions, fostering meaningful connections with others.
Your artistic style is an intersection of so many different elements such as geometry, nature, surrealism, color, perspective, and space. Tell us about what your creative process typically looks like. How do you realize when a piece of work is complete by your standard?
In my creative process, I draw inspiration from various sources, mainly nature and green landscapes, geometry, scale, and perspectives, surrealism, and space. I usually start by exploring different ideas and concepts through sketches and experimentation with different mediums. I channel my passion for these elements to go beyond the limits of our reality, resulting in strange, colorful, and dreamlike artistic creations.
When determining if a piece of work is complete by my standards, I rely on a gut feeling that tells me the piece has achieved the balance and harmony I intended and is translating the message I want to express. I look for a sense of satisfaction and coherence in the composition, colors, and overall visual impact. Sometimes, it’s about knowing when to stop and not overwork the piece, trusting that it has reached its full potential.
Ultimately, my creative process is a journey of exploration and discovery, where I allow spontaneity and intuition to guide me towards a finished piece that reflects my vision and resonates with viewers.
It is a feat to know that you are also formally educated in architecture. Would you describe how the influence of architecture seeps into the artistry you weave?
Certainly! My background in architecture has had a profound impact on my artistry. As an architect and designer specializing in bioclimatics, I developed a keen eye for detail, spatial awareness, and a deep appreciation for design principles, as well as an understanding of integration within the environment. These skills have seamlessly translated into my artistic endeavors, allowing me to create works that are not only visually appealing but also structurally sound.
Furthermore, architecture has influenced my understanding of balance, proportion, and composition, which are essential elements in both fields. I often find myself drawing inspiration from interior and exterior designs, architectural forms, patterns, and textures, incorporating them into my art to add depth and complexity.
Overall, my education in architecture has enriched my artistry by providing me with a unique perspective and a set of skills that continue to shape and enhance my creative process.
As far as the use of color goes, how significant is a color scheme to you? What role does a color palette play in the work you currently do?
When it comes to the use of color, a color scheme is extremely significant to me in my work. A well-thought-out color palette plays a crucial role in the work I do because it helps establish a cohesive and harmonious visual identity for projects. Green, in particular, holds a special place in my creative palette, symbolizing the essence of my childhood surroundings and architectural influences.
By carefully selecting colors and creating a balanced color scheme, I am able to enhance the overall design and effectively communicate the desired message to the audience.
We want to know the earliest memory you have of interacting with art or even creating your first piece of art?
Reflecting on my earliest interaction with art brings me back to my childhood days, where I’d spend hours with crayons and paper, crafting colorful drawings under the guidance of my art instructor, Kamel Bettioui. Growing up in the early 2000, I was introduced to computer art through tools like Paint XP, sparking my curiosity in the world of digital creativity.
As I matured, my passion for art merged seamlessly with architecture, fueled by my studies of renowned artists and designers across history. From the masters like Michelangelo to contemporary visionaries like Zaha Hadid, I found inspiration in the marriage of artistic expression and architectural innovation.
Before immersing myself in digital art, I honed my skills in 3D software for architectural design, delving into intricate model-making to cultivate a three-dimensional perspective. This journey eventually led me to discover my deep-seated passion for art.
These foundational experiences have kindled a lasting love for creativity and self-expression within me. My early exposure to diverse forms of art not only cultivated a profound appreciation for artistic expression but also continues to motivate me to push boundaries and explore the vast spectrum of artistry.
It’s understood that your imagery lives in a digital realm, however, do you find yourself drawn to any other mediums? Whether it’s just admiration or an interest in trying out a new medium yourself?
In addition to my experience with creating digital imagery, I have a strong passion for traditional mediums such as painting, drawing, and crafting paper 3D models. These physical materials provide me with a direct connection to the creative process and bring a tactile element to my artwork. I enjoy pushing the boundaries by experimenting with different mediums and techniques, constantly seeking to broaden my artistic expression. Moreover, I have a keen interest in interior and exterior design, finding joy in creating beautiful and functional spaces.
I am particularly enthusiastic about delving deeper into photography, as I believe it offers a unique perspective and aesthetic that digital images may not capture. The art of capturing a moment in time through a camera lens fascinates me, and I am eager to explore this medium further in my artistic journey.
I firmly believe in the importance of embracing a wide range of influences and interests as an artist. Such diversity can spark new ideas, fuel creative growth, and ultimately inspire fresh perspectives and innovation in our work.
