Ripe Soursop

Ripe Soursop builds Electric Pulp from electronic music that keeps the hand of its maker visible, and “Grain” and “Circle” trace that approach from physical motion to return. The project is built around single-take performances and organic artificial sounds, with the controls played by hand rather than corrected after the fact. “Grain” carries that method at high energy, while “Circle” closes the EP by bringing its melodic thread back toward the beginning.

GRAIN

“Grain” treats imperfection as part of the recording itself, with every knob, trigger, and groove played by hand in a home synth-closet studio. The track was recorded to analog and mixed in situ, without micro-adjustments in the DAW, so the performance remains tied to the physical decisions made while it happened. Even the description of the sound as “raw” or “mushy” belongs to the process rather than being something corrected afterward.

That hands-on approach gives the track a particular kind of movement. Each gesture has to happen in real time, and the groove cannot be separated from the person controlling it. The music does not present a cleaned-up version of the performance because the performance itself is the recording.

“Grain” arrives early in Electric Pulp with the feeling of something being made rather than assembled. The knobs turn, the triggers fire, the groove moves, and the track keeps what happened.

CIRCLES

Ripe Soursop’s “Circle” closes Electric Pulp by returning its melodic thread to where the EP began. The description gives the track a clear purpose as a final piece, but its circular movement matters more than a neat conclusion. After an EP built from single-take electronic performances, the idea of returning to the starting point gives the ending somewhere to land.

The track is described as melodic and full of feeling, with its role defined by the loose threads it gathers. Rather than introducing another direction at the last moment, “Circle” looks back across what came before and connects it to the beginning. The title makes that movement plain without explaining every connection.

A circle does not need an endpoint. It reaches the place where it started and keeps going, which makes “Circle” less a door closing than a path returning to its first step
