Rukmani

Rukmani

Rukmani’s Softies Vibe brings together different sides of her approach to desire, from the excitement of a secret encounter to the confidence of openly claiming someone. Across these two tracks, she explores attraction without losing sight of what she wants, though the situations she describes leave room for very different kinds of attachment.

Rukmani’s “Sneaky Link” finds its narrator involved with someone who goes home to another woman but keeps thinking about her. The arrangement has its appeal, and she knows she has his attention, yet the limited time they share is always on borrowed terms. Trumpets, electronic textures and relaxed percussion give the track a laid-back groove that contrasts with the complications of this relationship.

She doesn’t seem interested in pretending the situation is something else. “Even if it’s for the time being” makes her awareness of its limits clear, while the repeated request not to waste their borrowed time keeps the focus on the encounter itself. The lyrics also leave a question hanging: when she asks whether he can let go or whether she should walk away, the answer isn’t as obvious as the attraction.

Rukmani enjoys the thrill of being the person on his mind, but she also wants to know what place she actually has in his life. The repeated invitation to push his buttons keeps the flirtation going, even as the possibility of walking away enters the conversation. For now, she is willing to see where this goes, but she hasn’t stopped asking what it means.

Property

On “Property,” featuring Tar1q, Rukmani takes a more assertive approach to romantic attachment. The repeated declaration that her partner is her property gives the track a playful sense of possession, while her verses make clear that she wants his time and attention. Tar1q joins the exchange with his own declarations, turning the song into a back-and-forth between two people who want to claim each other.

Rukmani’s narrator asks for more than words. She wants him to make time for her, return every day and show that she matters. Tar1q answers with promises of his own, matching her certainty and reinforcing the idea of mutual commitment. Their delivery gives the repeated hook its character, as the word “property” becomes a flirtatious declaration rather than a one-sided demand.

The contrast with “Sneaky Link” is hard to miss. There, Rukmani accepts a relationship with limited time and uncertain boundaries. Here, she wants a more exclusive place in someone’s life, and Tar1q appears ready to give it to her. Both tracks revolve around desire, but they approach the question of what to do with it from very different positions.
